writer’s studio

ENCASED

LOCATION

The Spadina Museum, Toronto, Ontario

AREA

15 m2

PROGRAM

To design a studio for a writer with all necessary accommodations on the grounds surrounding the museum. An oasis for inspiration.

The idea is to align the studio on the Spadina Museum axis to maximize the impact of both the site and inspiration it is to provide. Inside the studio, there are basic amenities including a washroom and a temporary sleeping space. Furthermore, the façade reflects the interior wall function, which includes bookshelf on east wall, and writable area on west wall. The east wall façade layers wood panels of various thicknesses, whereas the west wall façade allows the public to write as they circulate on site. On the other hand, North and South façades are made of operable frosted glass for privacy purposes.
