PROGRAM
To repurpose an industrial plant owned by DISMECO into an international reference in research, training and development of sustainable discipline.
S.T.E.P.S. (Sustainability. Technology. Environment. People. Society) was a proposal designed with three principles: integration, memory, and vegetation. The new addition is designed to grow and harvest local produce for both the residents and the new restaurant. In addition, the residential balconies contain mini farms for gardening, and green walls for shading. To pay respect to the 800 tragic victims killed in Bologna during the second world war, eight internal courtyards and gardens were also added to bring the users from different programs together. A walkable roof, shared cafe, and extensive public spaces also promote collaboration and interaction amongst the users. By creating opportunities for this between a variety of disciplines within the building, S.T.E.P.S. aimed to foster a culture of mentorship and innovation working towards a better future.
